CONTENT WARNING: TRANSPHOBIA
It has been about 2 years since I’ve first made contact with my local furry community.
While I have met many wonderful friends through this, the more time I spend engaged with the fandom, the more it becomes clear that trans women are not welcome in the community, and the community, at least locally, is hostile to all minorities. Though I’d assume this applies to a sizable part of furries as a whole.
I am not affected by transmisogyny, however I have recently been witness to a witch hunt on one of the rare openly trans women in the local fandom. She has been harassed, insulted and threatened for… wearing women’s clothes (a skirt and fishnets). And for making a forcefem joke on one of her tiktok videos.
The statements in this piece are all heavily inspired by the shit that was flung around in discussions involving her. With wide applause and support from many figures that are heavily involved with running furry events in my country. I needed to let out the fear, disappointment and anger I felt when my remaining hope that this is still a safe community for minorities shattered into pieces. Since this was one of the prompts of a prompt sheet I wanna try this month, I decided it was a good opportunity to let it all out.
I am even more scared of participating in this community. I will not be supporting these events anymore. As a transmasc, I have also experienced bigotry, however none of it to the same extent as transfems have to deal with. I cannot stand for my friends, my sisters, being harmed so easily and without repercussions.
Dear trans women, transfems. You are so so beautiful and brave for being you. For continuing to survive a world that hates you. I will always stand up for you. You deserve all the love and support in the world.
