Heartbit updatebit devlogbit

Hi everyone.

It’s been a bit since the last post on my blog.

Mainly been busy with my recently acquired job + my visual novel, Heartbit. In this post I mainly want to share some developments with the project.

I still don’t really have any promotional material for the game, so I’m trying to still be a bit secretive about it. However, this game will be open source and licensed under a CC-BY-SA license, and if you’re good enough at digging for information you’ll find its public repository if you wish. [Read more...]

Revisiting a game I used to be scared of: Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure DS

Let me first build up a little context.

My very first game console was a pink DS Lite, bundled with Nintendogs.

My father, who at the time was an avid pirate, soon got me a flashcart to go with it. Me, being 7, and not really knowing of what DS games are out there, I was happy with just my virtual doggy game, but I still was extastic to find out that my father had downloaded some games for me onto the before mentioned flashcart. If you’re curious, here’s a list of the favourites I can remember: (some of them I’d today still claim are really good games!)

  • Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
  • How To Train Your Dragon DS
  • Go, Diego, Go. [Read more...]

Game review: Golden Treasure: The Great Green

A lovely text adventure with a surprisingly strong focus on philosophy. A 20ish hours-long treat for the mind and soul, not just for those who feel connected to dragonkind. This story will stay with me for a long, long time, I feel. [Read more...]

Quick thoughts: Doki Doki Universe

On a recent car trip, I wound up booting up a game on my PS Vita that I knew next to nothing about, only having seen a couple screenshots my friend has sent. That game is “Doki Doki Universe”, and it’s a pretty interesting work.

It’s essentially a personality test with things built around that core idea. Playing it gives you about as much value as solving online personality quizzes does - it’s not meant for gaining particularly interesting or useful insight about yourself, it’s mainly just for fun.

The game consists of two main things - planets - a couple Scribblenauts-like storylines, where what you do and say to the characters influences the game’s perception of your personality (for example, if you choose to hug a crying character, the game deems you a bit closer to the “Sweetheart” archetype), and asteroids - which are straightforward personality quiz questions.
